BANAGRAM/BAKERGRAM- One-D Performance at Trinity Square Video
This was a video performance at Trinity Square Video that took place in December 2013. This piece explored themes related to black and queer women's representation in art through a re-interpretation of Josephine Baker's life whereby I sample her 'savage' dance in the movie Princess Tam Tam. My purpose is to explore counter-narratives that challenge the representation bestowed upon her by the status quo. In my performance Baker's 'savage' dance in Princess Tam Tam is projected and played forward and in reverse while I write quotes/ statements from Baker onto bananas which I then hand out to the audience. Thanks to Linda Duvall and TSV.
